« The Journal Sentinel & Mark Green Part Three | Main | Mark Green: Anti-mom »

90% of life is showing up -- and even that's too hard for Green & Co.!

This is the excuse Mark Graul, the campaign manager for Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Green, gave the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for why his man had so few specifics -- none, really -- on how he would deal with the state's fiscal woes:

"Mark's budget plan is a statement of principles," Graul said. "We don't have the budget office available to us to do line item by line item of what that will be."

In other words: budgeting is hard! (Hey, JS: Maybe Green knows what he would do -- just that it might be unpopular so he doesn't want to say! Maybe not! Who knows? But why not ask?)

But budgeting isn't the only thing Graul and Green have found difficult. Here are some other things that have been just too hard to pull off:

1. Remembering gifts from a notorious lobbyist crook.

2. Showing up for a radio interview after a controversial congressional vote on embryonic stem cell research.

3. Answering a questionnaire of six yes or no questions. (The Brawler would have thought anyone has time to hang out with Robert Lorge or tool around the state  in (as the JS dutifully tells us in the third graph of a story glossing over Green's lack of a budget plan) a 35-foot RV could find a couple minutes to fill out a questionairre. Maybe Green could have used filling out the form as an excuse for not chilling out with Lorge! "Bob, hey, it's Mark. Love to meet you at the photo op but this questionairre is just killin' me!")

4. Grappling with the difficult question of whether the would let Scott Jensen off the legal hook.

5. Giving straight answers to his Navy "service."

The Brawler likely is missing a few. But it's clear we're getting into serious functional competency issues here. (Unless they're lying of course, which would make them serial prevaricators. But just for yuks, let's give them the benefit of the doubt.)

That 90% Woody Allen referred to is of course the easy part of life (though on some occasions, past Packer season included, it ain't that easy some days).

If that portion is too challenging for Team Green, the Brawler shudders to think how it would cope with the hard job of governing, which demands more than saying "I agree with the president" or "Yesiree, Tom."
