The Milwaukee Vukmir-Sentinel part 2
Lest anyone forget, the same Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that says it favors broad-based health care reform also endorsed broad-based health care reform opponent Leah Vukmir in 2006.
Here's the endorsement from the edit board that, two years earlier, had to be shamed into endorsing John Kerry for president. From the 10/16/06 Journal Sentinel:
Leah Vukmir has served ably in the state Assembly since taking Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker's vacated seat in 2002. She has combined a strong knowledge of health care and school issues with a fervent belief in tax relief.
We endorse her re-election because she has been a steady advocate for her constituents and shown an ability to work across the aisle with Democrats. She was a sponsor of the compromise bill to lift the cap on the Milwaukee County Parental Choice Program the voucher program. She also helped Democrat colleague Jon Richards shepherd a bill to allow volunteer health care providers to help out in schools.
We believe Vukmir is mistaken on several key issues. She opposes the only meaningful campaign reform to come up in the Legislature last term the proposal to create a combined Ethics and Elections board. She supports the Taxpayer Protection Amendment. She opposes the use of federal or state dollars to support new embryonic stem cell research.
But we believe her passion and experience make her a stronger choice than her opponent, political novice David Hucke.
Since then, the Journal Sentinel has given Leah her own blog from which she publish pro-HSA propaganda.
Will the Journal Sentinel change its mind now that Leah has shown she has no ability to work across the aisle with Democrats on arguably the most important issue in the state? Will the Journal Sentinel change its mind now that she's used her "strong knowledge" of health care to support a non plan for health care? Does the Journal Sentinel think she is a "steady advocate for her constituents" given she clearly opposes fundamental health care reform in favor of tax shelters?
Will it be possible for the JS to endorse a future rival of Leah Vukmir given she now has a blog on the site?
