The Brawler had a good laugh over Mark Graul's response to a SurveyUSA poll that found his guy, John Gard, was trailing Steve Kagen by 11 points in the race for the 8th Congressional District.
The poll, which shows Kagen leading Gard 54% to 43%, was conducted for the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call. It was one of seven surveys conducted for the paper about hotly contested races across the country.
Gard consultant Mark Graul took issue with the poll, arguing that SurveyUSA's use of automated phone polling makes their surveys unreliable.
"A 10-year-old could be answering the survey and no one would know," Graul said in an e-mail, adding that the Gard campaign's most recent poll shows Kagen leading by only one point.
Now, polls are only polls and they can be flawed. And an 11 point spread seems a bit much. Nevertheless, I'd lay good money that Kagen is leading by more than one point -- and I'd bet Gard's most recent poll shows the same. Let's remember: Mark Graul -- who once, in a remarkable instance of projection called Steve Kagen an "asshole" -- is a serial liar.
But it's worth noting that SurveyUSA is a polling company with a solid track record.
Just for yuks -- who recalls Graul declaring "fantastic news" a poll that showed Mark Green down 10 points to Jim Doyle.
