"0ne of those pathetic bloggers who tries to make a living out of attacking other bloggers and media folk in an effort to illicit a reaction and draw traffic to his site." -- Owen Robinson of Boots and Sabers
I think Sadly, No! nails it in this shorter version of Ross Douthat's Bush apologia (registration required):
Yeah, OK, so Bush fucked up everything he touched, but at least he had the good sense to scramble around at the very last minute while spending lots of lives and money to avert a complete zombies-roaming-the-streets type of disaster. In conclusion, Bush was a good president.
More on target, say, than this analysis of the spending habits of Bush vs. Obama offered up by Roland Melnick in retort to the Brawler's photo of an Obama supporter at September 19's sparingly attended Milwaukee Tea Party (sparingly attended, at least, in comparison to AFP's ludicrous crowd estimates):
Brave...maybe, but not in the way you think. Mathematically inclined? Not so much. Obama's flaccid stimulus spent more in one stroke of the pen than the entire war in Iraq. Claiming GW's military spending would buy 50 years of Obamacare is almost as dishonest and stupid as claiming you can pay for it by making government more efficient.
The Brawler is one of society's producers, so he needs to hurry to work. But just one point. The Brawler appreciates Roland desired a more turgid stimulus,. But the Brawler wishes Roland had a better sense of how much of our treasure Bush wasted in the Iraq War (particularly if he's going to quibble about someone's mathematical inclinations).
Last week the Brawler and others noted the post-election meltdown by Texas Hold Em Blogger, a man brave enough to harass people for speaking Spanish in front of him and go on to call them "chihuahuas" in the safety of his blog.
But now he's back -- and more paranoid than ever -- as "The Underground Conservative."
While the Badger Blog Alliance yanked Tex's blogging privileges in wake of his comments at Boots and Sabers, Badger Blogger has seen fit to link to his new home as has Real Debate as has one "Silent E." One wonders: will Charlie Sykes, Patrick McIlneran et al link to Tex's new house of crazy?
One of the more idiotic conceits of the right is that "the most productive members of our society" will drop out of society rather than pay the supposed confiscatory taxes the Obama administration will impose. It's known as going John Galt, after the hero of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged.
Remember the Milwaukee Police Department "voter fraud" report -- a musty collection of previously shot-down insinuations, over-the-top policy recommendations (banish same-day registration!"), hilarious counterfactuals (Gerry Boyle Jr. coulda beat Gwen Moore!) and overwrought hyperbole ("I wonder if my vote counted!" says the conclusion) -- that was leaked, blindsiding MPD Chief Ed Flynn, last spring?
As noted earlier this week, it seems the author and leaker of the report was one Mike Sandvick, who has since resigned. (Note that Dan Bice failed, utterly, to identify the leaker.) Sandvick did his part to fight the massive voter fraud conspiracy he fingered by challenging 7 absentee ballots. So far as we can tell, this massive fraud did not sway the election.
Perusing the Badger Blogger site, the Brawler was appalled -- but not shocked -- to find that Sandvick, whose leaking of the report was clearly a political act, is friends with a lunatic right wing blog commenter. Which makes sense, given the voter fraud report had the paranoid trappings one would suspect from a right wing blog commenter.
And he's not friends with just any lunatic right wing blog commenter, my friends.
He's friends with Gus. That's right. He's friends with the commenter formerly known as Mickey -- before he was banned under that moniker on multiple sites for his sub-literate, intemperate rants. (The Brawler seems to recall that even Badger Blogger banned him.)
Here's what "Gus" had to say on Badger Blogger (in comments):
Folks, I kept my mouth shut at the time, but Mike Sandvick is the Detective that Barrett wanted out after he filed his report last spring on voter fraud. Mike is a friend of mine and is a man of character.
So, in short, the cop voter fraud report -- decried by Bruce Murphy as a stink bomb -- that influenced state legislation, public discourse, a lawsuit by J.B. Van Hollen, and numerous rants by Charlie Sykes et al was composed and leaked by a guy who's friends with Mickey, a lunatic right wing blog commenter.
Think about that, let it sink in, and remind yourself that the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel failed utterly to report the identity of the leaker or his agenda. I dunno, maybe people would have wanted to know he was a KA of a lunatic right wing blog commenter.
Again -- it'd be hilarious that this is what our discourse has been reduced to. If it wasn't sad and pathetic.
Shoot, even the Brawler knew that if you wanted to ID the leaker, just ask Mickey.
