You know, the Brawler was really ready to give Ol Lady Owen props for his mea culpa about how he was eagerly suckered into passing along a slander that State Senator Mark Miller and the Dems were violating election laws in the great copier scandal.
But then he delved into Owen's comments. A critic, citing some of Owen's previous writing accusing the Dems of illegal activity, wrote this:
"I have a little bit of information on WHY it was left on a copier in the capital. Allegedly, the Dems are running a caucus out of the building again, but they aren’t calling it that. If you go to the south end of the ground floor by Cathy Stepp’s office, there is a door marked ‘private.’ Behind that door, there are two paid Dem media staffers (I believe on Robson’s payroll) whose job it is to work on media for the Dems. They’ve been there for about a year. Are there any reporters in Madison willing to knock on that door?”
You BELIEVED? Check that with two sources? Two “fair and balanced” sources—or two from the same side that was using you?
As to what else you could have done, take a course or even read a basic text in reporting, before you try to do it again.
You were not the one wronged. You willingly were used, and you wronged others.

KP,
That was a separate story that has yet to be proved or disproved.
Hey Ol Lady: Your job as a journalist -- the role in which you passed along that "information" -- is to make sure something is accurate before you report it. Saying it has "yet to be proved or disproved" doesn't cut it. To borrow your words, it's a "sad testament to ... ethical and moral character."
One would think you would apply a little more intellectual rigor, particularly after you got used like a $2 ho on your "scoop."
So when you look in the mirror now, do you see Mary Mapes?
