Folkbum, The Political Environment and other worthies are calling upon Jessica McBride to apologize for trivializing the killing of 4-year-old Jasmine Owens on her radio show.
It'd be nice to think that Jessica "the 6th district is full of thugs" McBride would apologize for crossing a line, but that supposes a level of personal insight and empathy that is clearly beyond her.
F'rinstance, recall how her husband, failed attorney general primary candidate Paul Bucher, ran an ad attacking Peg Lautenschlager over the crime lab backlog? The ad capitalized on the death of slain agent Jay Balchunas to drive a political point. The Balchunas family complained. The ad was pulled.
Here's how Jessica approached this matter on her blog, in a post complaining about Michael J. Fox doing "exploitative ads" supporting candidates who supported stem cell research (from the Brawler archives):
The media never call the Democrats on it. If George Bush so much as runs a snippet of footage from 9/11, and they are all over him for that (not to mention if they air an ad about a law enforcement officer slain after a crime lab delay). Democrats are allowed to be as exploitative as they want.
As the Brawler sagely noted at the time: "Yes, the media was all over Bucher for the ad. The reason? The Balchunas family took exception to the campaign using his name. So really, Jessica is attacking the family here."
It'd be nice to think that Jessica would apologize for crossing a line. But there's precious little sign she has it in her character.
And now Jessica doesn't do radio!
Aw Wah Vah Mrs. McBucher!

It's doughtful that Jessica will say she's sorry for a few reasons.
A) She does get stuck to her views that go on and on...and on...and...
B) She is locked and loaded for the next round. Which leaves her only in a defensive mode. That's not a place to make an apology. Or make a well-round point-of-view.
C) She was above her head all along.
I hope she goes to Annie and Paul and becomes the wife/mom she has always wanted to be.
This is my final post on Mrs. McBucher. Good night.
