When we last checked in on Boots and Sabers, Ol Lady Owen Robinson was fulminating about "propaganda" from Iraq. He, along with Brian Fraley, saw a conspiracy in a French news service photo caption saying an Iraqi woman was holding two coalition bullets she said hit her house. But -- stop the presses -- they weren't bullets. They were "unexploded rounds."
Time-crushed copy editors of the world watch out -- you could be next to come under fire from Owen who, despite never having been active service, is a crack shot!
After seeing Owen nip this insidious propaganda in bud, the Brawler fully expected to see Owen challenge the account of seven members of the 82nd Airborne who, basically, said that the US counterinsurgency effort in Iraq is not working.
Instead, to borrow a phrase from Owen's buddy Jessica McBride, all we get is crickets.
It's weird. Owen can jump on straw copy editors for trying to undermine our cause with a strategically placed inaccurate description of ammunition. But when faced with a cogent argument laying out why we're not winning from people with first-hand experience in Iraq, he shrinks from the battle.
Of course, being a good "milblogger," he does find another way to help in the War on Terrorism: Make fun of the French.
In a post noting that the French foreign minister visited Iraq, Owen jokes: "Of course, it is an indication that Iraq is becoming safer if the French will venture into it."
Ha ha ha!
Get it: The French didn't join our little adventure in Iraq because they, like any sane observer, saw it was insane. They didn't join us because they were a bunch of pussies.
Of course, that ignores the fact that the French have close to 2.000 troops are in Afghanistan, which, the Brawler last heard, is a dangerous place.
But when has Owen ever let "fact" interfere with one of his arguments?
Extra added bonus: A typically well-informed B&S commenter notes that a conservative is in power in the UK -- which must be a surprise for Gordon Brown.
So, was the picture pinched or not? Wasn't that the question?
Nice diversion, but stick to the point.

Uh, I think the Brawler "was" speaking speaking about diversions ... and distractions, things conservatives excel at.

Owen and Jed are pictured in uniform on their site. Why the hell aren't they in Iraq?

And if the French are so bad, why do Army boys always want to wear berets, green or otherwise?

One correction: Owen and McBride hate each other.
