Patrick McIlheran says, despite calling Mexicans chihuahuas, Texas Hold Em Blogger stays on his blogroll.
Patrick suggests (Brawler's read anyway) that Tex came close to losing his linked status over the chihuahua comment. But he's keeping him on.
Paddy says Tex's view is that immigrants should assimilate but he argues it in language Paddy disapproves of. The Brawler says Tex has a big problem with brown people. Read Tex's comments and you be the judge (Brawler's bold):
I am sick of them shoving their fucking culture and theire fucking language down my throat.
I stood in Wal Mart yesterday and listen to a bunch of chattering chihuahuas speaking Mexican until I sick of listening to it and finally said, “You’re in America. Speak English or go back to wherever you came from” and walked away.
Either adopt our culture or language or get the fuck out of the U.S. My grandparents were immigrants and guess what? English was learned in their homes. It was the only acceptable language.
Patrick also says that Tex called Mexicans "chihuahuas" after "baiting from lefty commentators."
Not true! Here's the string leading to Tex's racist outburst. Please identify the baiting that triggered a racist outburst online -- or please explaing how baiting by lefty commenters caused Tex to berate a group of people minding their own business at a Wal-Mart before said baiting even happened?
Here's the string (Tex's comments are the ones that appear on the lines below the old school Brewer avatar/Peter):
I thought you liked letting the market decide what businesses do.
That’s not the issue here and you know it. Why the flippant remarks on a serious issue? U.S. dollars are the only legal currency in America.
I woke up to this little gem this morning and have been pissed off about it since.
Scott, if you truly believe that, why dont I open a store that accepts everything BUT US dollars?
Congrats, no one knows what defines America anymore.
I love how its ok for these people to turn us into the hell-hole they are trying to get away from. I further love “open-minded” and “understanding” folks who condone and make excuses for them.
Yes, I did say “these people” to refer to illegal immigrants and those “immigrants” that think this is just a move and want to turn my country into theirs.
Pesos are not legal U.S. currency. Neither are francs, marks, rubles or anything else.
Same with counterfeit money. Why not make it all OK? I could set up a printing press in the basement.
It’s easier than working for a living.
I so hate this. I agree it is wrong, so wrong. Although I am not a bit surprized. Geeze most of Texas is inhabited by Mexicans. It is no longer Texas, it has turned into Texico.
This country needs a firm hand, and fast.
Why must we kiss the butts of illegal criminals??
Why is our government considering rewarding them, WHY?! It is all so damn upside down!
Texico……isn’t that the name of an EVIIIIIIIL Oil Company?
Would you prefer Mexas???
Either way it still means one and one thing only.
I guess I’m just confused as to why you see this as a threat. I spent US dollars i Mexico. What’s the big issue? They take them because it’s good business sense to accept the currency that your customers have in their pocket.
I mean you act like it’s some kind of national crisis. Take a breath, guys. Let the hot dog stand guy take whatever he wants. Are you proposing that we legislate away his ability to do what is best for his business?
Frankly I have no issue here.
If the company wants to take pesos, fine.
If area people want to take their green-back elsewhere in protest, that is fine too.
They take dollars in Mexico, if a merchant wants to do the exchange that is their business.
Once you star REQUIRING it, then we have a problem.
I just find it an in-your-face gesture by people who are coming here illegally and forcing their culture, language, etc. on us by refusing to assimilate.
The United States of me-HEE-co, here we come.
I’m 100% with Peter on this.
It’s a form of giving up. When you just visit other countries you cant be garunteed that they’ll take your greenbacks. Here, however, you can be here illegally and we’ll accept whatever currency you have on you.
Let the government fix it, we’ll just complain later.I just find it an in-your-face gesture
In other words, it’s you being thin-skinned about Mexican immigrants.
And besides, who says the people ordering those pizzas aren’t American citizens, just come back from a day of shopping in Mexico? Happens by the thousands every day.

There's nothing in that string that a reasonable person would construe as "baiting," Paddy. Questioning and challenging? Maybe. But "Baiting?" What is Tex, anyway, a bear? Baiting? Why characterize it as such?
Patrick: Tex's issue isn't with assimilation. Tex's issue is with the fact that the world, his country, is changing -- and all demographic trends suggest that change is going to accelerate. Tex quite clearly hates dealing with a changing world -- and the people who are involved in changing it. Regardless of their legal status, the Brawler would point out, insofar as can be gleaned from his written remarks.
Indeed, Tex's ire extends to Muslims as well, as demonstrated in a recent post about the "creep of sharia." Short version: If we elect Hillary -- sorry, Hitlary -- the terrorists have won. (Things triggering Tex's rage: The establishment of a mosque at West Point for Muslim students!) Here, as elsewhere, Tex charmingly refers to Islam as the "religion of piece (of arm, of leg, of torso)." Apparently for McIlheran insulting Catholicism is a no-no but insulting Islam is OK.
Take it away Tex (Brawler's bold):
That’s what should have been told to these demanding bastards who have no right to make such demands. We are not and hopefully never will be an Islamic republic (well, that depends largely on who wins the election next November).
And in comments, where Tex always shines:
Within 20 years, America will be an Islamic republic, I fear. And a non-player on the world stage. Liberalism has brought about the downfall of America. Our culture has become obsessed with dhimmitude under the guise of tolerance and the Islamonazis are advancing, demanding more and more rule by sharia.
Electing Hitlary in 2008 — which is an absolute certainity — will hasten this development as we surrender to the jihadists overseas and bend over to accommodate them at home.
Anyway, Paddy, no: I don't think linking to Tex should constitute a firing offense. (I know that means the world to you.) I just think -- as would any reasonable person -- that associating with the likes of Tex undermines your credibility as a columnist. And between us, I think there's some glimmering of a decent columnist in you --not one I would agree with, obviously, but one who can make a salient point that rises above sheer partisan hackery. It would take some work -- but I think it would be worth it. And you know I wouldn't say that about just anyone! (And I'm always happy to sit down and chat about it!) And I hereby retract any insinuation that you should be canned. Though if you pen another column I can't stomach...
But when you're saying lefty bloggers object to Tex because of his "ideas" however expressed ...
Paddy, you know that ain't so.
UPDATE: Headline changed to make it clear that it's Patrick doing the linking.
