It's weird.
Yesterday, Charlie Sykes at least twice asked why Michelle Obama wasn't talking about abortion or gay rights, issues that no doubt that would fire up his listeners.
Today, he asked his readers if they noticed that every time someone at the Democratic National Convention mentioned gay rights the crowd got fired up. (He didn't refer to a specific incident.) They can't help reveal their true heart, Sykes told his listeners. And their true heart, of course, is "extremism" on the issue of gay marriage.
Of course, Obama favors civil unions but doesn't support gay marriage. And let's recall that Charlie Sykes, never lacking an opinion regardless of his level of ignorance, in 2006 equivocated endlessly on his position regarding the marriage amendment (obviously, a thrice-married man can't defend the sanctity of marriage with a straight face).
Why is it so important for Charlie to endlessly raise the issue of gay rights with his audience and why does he feel it necessary to misrepresent Obama's positions?
(And why does he endlessly raise the abortion issue given his wife -- or a character his wife played on the radio before she was his wife and just a "family friend" -- is pro-choice?)
