Charlie Sykes committed a flagrant act of lying at roughly 9:21 on Wednesday when he told his listeners he opposed the Troubled Assets Relief Program. He was prattling on about how GM warranties would be guaranteed by the TARP slush fund and added, "Which I was against."
That, my friends, is a lie.
Actually, during the last days of the Bush presidency, Sykes was big time in favor of the passage of the bailout. He was conflicted, to be sure. But he felt the alternative would be the collapse of capitalism as we knew it, an ascendant left, etc. And he -- along with James T. Harris -- praised Paul Ryan for taking a "courageous" stand in supporting a bailout.
Sykes may find his pro-bailout past (six months ago) to be problematic, but it's there. Why lie about it?
It's just after the halfway point on the podcast, in the midst of his bemoaning the backing of GM and Chrysler warranties.
Hey, why would Charlie expect the losers who listen to him to, you know, pay attention to what he said in the past. These people can't hold a job during the day, for crying out loud, you exzpect them to have cognitive dissonance?
