No, the federal government can't repair a busted oil well (likely the result of negligence by the driller), it can't bring peace to the Middle East if Israel won't stop building settlements in the West Bank, it can't significantly reduce the unemployment rate if Congressional Republicans believe -- contrary to every serious economist -- that fiscal stimulus can play a role in encouraging economic activity.
But the federal government has played a critical role in reducing poverty among the elderly and thereby enabling people to live longer lives. But the Brawler wouldn't expect assclowns like Owen Robinson and Patrick McIlheran to give it credit for that.
Yes. The program has lived up to it's promise. No longer would the elderly be a burden to their children in old age.
