One of the more amusing aspects of this lunatic political season is Charie Sykes' petulance over his inability to cajole the Journal Sentinel into pushing his talking points (by which of course I mean the talking points he gets from/concocts with Republicans.
The JS won't push his anti-MMSD/Barrett meme! The JS wont pick up on the latest scandal in Russ Feingold's ads! Meanwhile the JS thinks Ron Johnson is pig ignorant on global warming (tho here they actually treat him with kids gloves -- tho not enough for Chuck who found Johnson's sunspot reverie to be "intelligent). Wah wah wah!!!!!
It's quite a change for Chuck who in the past has been successful in raising "issues" that seep into coverage. This who claim the JS has a liberal bias apparently weren't paying attention to their white hot coverage of Jim Doyle's nonscandals from several years ago.
And so Chuck has been doing what he does best: smearing. The reason the JS isn't covering these "stories" isn't because they're bullshit, it's because the JS is in the bag for Barrett. Did you know that the reporters are union? Shoot, Chuck says Larry Sandler is a "union activist." (Would Patrick McIlheran qualify for that status given he's serves as a steward?)
His source of outrage on Thursday was an editorial calling for, rightly, Doyle to pour on the spending for the Milwaukee-Madison train line so a potential Republican governor would be hardpressed to derail it.
To Mequon-livin', tassel-loafer-wearin', thrice-married Charlie, this is of course elitism, a big middle finger to his mouth-breathing audience. So in a self styled exercise of speaking truth to power, he blasted Pimental and editor Marty Kaiser (who is conservative -- gotta love Chuck's headgames) and told his listeners that even if it put his job at risk -- Marty's a big wheel, y'know-- he would "give you information you are not going to get from the rest of the media." Indeed, there is "no reason for me to have this job if I don't tell people exactly what I think about this."
It's difficult to tell whether chuck really thinks he is making some kind of principled stand or if he's just playing his audience for rubes. And frankly I can't decide which is more amusing.
